Old-Fashion Homemade Pudding

This homemade pudding recipe will have the entire family gathering around the table, and it only takes 15 minutes!

JUMP TO RECIPE

Our granddaughter was visiting one rainy late afternoon and was getting restless in the house. We had already been outside to feed the ducks, stomp in the mud puddles, and catch raindrops on our tongues.

So what's better than whipping up a pot full of warm homemade vanilla pudding with a soaking, wet granddaughter on a rainy afternoon?

If she's forced to be inside, my granddaughter's favorite thing is to cook.

She scooted her chair up to the counter as I gathered all ingredients. I measured them and started the milk on the stove to warm while she mixed the flour, sugar, and salt with a wooden spoon. Next, we added the remaining milk and egg yolk. She continued to stir.

I added her mixture to the milk on the stove, finished our vanilla pudding, and topped it off with a dash of vanilla.

We may have had flour on the floor, sugar all over the counter, and messy faces from licking the spoon, but the smile on her face made it all worth it.

And, of course, the entire family gathered around the table to eat her and Mimi's old-fashioned homemade vanilla pudding.

Enjoy this sweet treat and make memories with your family too!

For Vanilla Homemade Pudding

  • 3/4 cup sugar

  • 1/3 cup flour

  • dash salt

  • 2 cups milk

  • 3 beaten egg yolks

  • 2 T butter

  • 1 tsp vanilla

For Chocolate Homemade Pudding

  • Use the above ingredients except:

My family loves warm chocolate and vanilla pudding, so I always double this delicious recipe.
